"I have taken all knowledge to be my province." - Sir Francis Bacon

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." - Unknown

Who I am, and what I believe:

* In the course of my life, I have been: a filmmaker, a graveplot salesman, a Halloween shop manager, a professional actor, the president of a charitable organization, manager of a toy store, a rep for The Franklin Mint, the chairman of a science fiction con, a trade-show pitchman, a writer, a project manager, a telemarketer, a bookseller, a student, a teacher, a conspiracy theorist, a game designer, a fanboy, a husband, a stage manager, a photographer, a comic-book seller, a street-corner hustler, and a door-to-door salesman. Specialization is for insects.

* I am a huge geek. I do not consider this to be something wrong with me.

* I currently live in King of Prussia, PA. I've lived in the Philadelphia, PA area my whole life. I regularly visit the Baltimore, New York, New Jersey, Boston, and Harrisburg areas as well. I get around.

* I have been blessed with many, many friends. It seems, in the last few years, that I have become "That Guy"... you know, the one that EVERYONE knows. I honestly have NO idea how this happened. But I am thankful for it every day.

* I like cheese.

* I am an incorrigible flirt... so don't incorrige me. I tend to be more comfortable around women than around men. I think sex is one of the bestest things ever. I am straight, but I'm not narrow. I think women are beautiful, and I don't understand what straight women and gay men see attractive in the male form. However, I do not think that there is anything morally wrong with homosexuality, bisexuality, or transgenderism, and that everyone deserves to love anyone they choose. I cannot understand why some people want to stop others from loving each other... more love can only make the world a better place.

* There is only one race, and it is the HUMAN race. Every single one of us is unique, and it is those differences that, when combined in different ways, drives our species on to greater achievements, and makes us strong. Yes, we are each molded by our experiences, and our gender, ethnicity, faith, nationality, language, age, skin color, sexual orientation, social status, and education all infuse who we are as people. They are all a part of our identities. But none of these fully defines us as people... we are all, each of us, greater than the sum of our parts. And it is only in first recognizing and accepting those differences, and then looking past them at the total person, that we can recognize and accept each other.

* I was raised in an Irish Catholic home. I have three brothers, two of whom are autistic. My parents both died when I was young... my mother from cancer when I was 11, and my father from emphysema when I was 15. I was raised afterward by my aunt, who had been a nun for the previous 25 years, and left to convent to care for my brothers and me until she passed on. I still miss them.

* I believe that it is the responsibility of every person to provide for others based on their ability to do so. I think that everyone has a duty to his or her fellow human beings, and that it is a moral imperative that the strong defend the week, that the rich assist the poor, that the powerful protect the defenseless, and that the wise instruct the ignorant. I think that the more that you have been blessed by society, either with wealth, power, or fame, than the greater your responsibility back to society in return. The more that you have, then the more should be expected of you in return.

* I call my politics "Left of Cynical". I am registered as a Democrat, but I will vote however, and for whoever, I damned well please, thank you. I am anti-Authoritarian, and I fully support Civil Rights, Human Rights, and First Amendment Rights for every human being. However, I find modern Libertarianism to be a selfish and hollow philosophy, along the lines of "I've got mine, screw you". I believe in a strong yet open government, fully answerable to its citizenry. I think it is the responsibility of a government to administer collective resources for the common good, and to protect those who need protection. I think that the Democratic Republic is a terrible form of government... the only thing worse is every single other form of government yet developed.

* I believe in a free-market economy, as it has thus far proven to be the most effective engine for economic growth in history. However, I also believe that a free-market economy must also be well and truly regulated, as the profit motive does not always benefit the common good. As I stated above, it is the government's job to protect those who need protecting, and that includes from each other.

* I was raised a Roman Catholic, but I no longer consider myself part of that faith. I currently consider myself to be an Agnostic. There may or may not be a God or gods, but I don't think that there is any way to prove or disprove his/her/its existence. The universe can be explained without resorting to a God, but it's also impossible to prove a negative premise, and so we are at an impasse. I do not think that Jesus Christ was the "Son of God", but I do think that he was one of the greatest men who's ever lived, and that his teachings (as laid out in the four Gospels) provide the basis for a philosophy of life that works better than others. At least, for me. And I believe that beauty and truth can be found in all faith, and that, even if God is not real, human spirituality certainly is. I do not believe that there is an afterlife, but I hope that there is one.

* Science is not a belief system... it is a system of rational thought, born out of Aristotelian logic. The purpose of the sciences is to provide objective answers to the questions "Who? What? Where? When?", and most importantly, "HOW?". It is then the job of religion and philosophy to determine "Why?". Science explains the universe... faith interprets it. The two do not have to conflict. The fact that they so often do is the fault of neither science nor faith, but of the people who are using them wrong.

* But, of course, I could be wrong...
